For Americans who celebrate Easter, the holiday for some, conjures up thoughts of spiral ham. Coronavirus seems to have little effect on the habit, even if large family gatherings are being avoided by many Americans.
Demand for spiral hams surged 413% in the week ending March 28 versus the year-ago period. That followed a 622% spike the previous week. For the four-week period ending March 28, demand jumped 283%.
Appetite for canned meat also jumped, up nearly 123% for the week ending March 28 from a year ago, and up 157% for the four weeks ending March 28.
Demand for processed meat climbed 54% during the week, following an 127% jump for the week ending March 21. The demand for fresh meat increased 53% during the week ending March 28 from the year-earlier week, after a 100% jump for the week ending Mach 21.
