On November 11th, 2013 at 6:00pm DC Central Kitchen had their 10th Anniversary of the Capital Food Fight, hosted by Jose Andres and Carla Hall.

Saval’s own Corporate Chef and Marketing Manager, Bryan Bernstein has participated every year as a volunteer in this wonderful event.  He works all day prior to the competition as the Stage Manager.  Setting the stage and assisting with preparations for the event.  An event he truly loves and looks forward to every year!

The event took place at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, DC.  This year’s winner is Chef Spike Gjerde! Congratulations!

The Capital Food Fight brings the food industry’s best talent together to support DC Central Kitchen’s unique brand of community empowerment.  Dozens of hot restaurants serve signature dishes to guest while top chefs battle on-stage.  Food critics and national celebrities are on hand to mingle with the crowd and add to the excitement.

About DC Central Kitchen.
Since their founding in 1989, DC Central Kitchen has prepared 25 million meals for our low-income and at-risk neighbors in Washignton, DC.

The 5,000 meals they dish out every day are loaded into their fleet of trucks and distributed at little or no cost to 100 nearby homeless shelters, transitional homes, and non-profit organizations.

Most importantly, DC Central Kitchen offers a rigorous Culinary Job Training program for unemployed men and women who want to replace homelessness, addicition, and incarceration with new careers and changed lives.

To help fund these programs and create good jobs, DC Central Kitchen is breaking new ground in the world of social enterprise, serving healthy, scratch-cooked meals in DC public schools and delivering nutritious snacks to corner stores in low-income neighborhoods.
